Music Lessons

I am an long-standing ABRSM examiner, and have 25 years of teaching experience. I believe that learning music should always be enjoyable, but that the best enjoyment comes from the satisfaction of achievement and through working to succeed. I have a strong track record of success in individual music exam results, and have helped pupils succeed at all levels, including regularly at grade 8 or diploma, as well as in the various elements of A level and GCSE music.

I teach piano, organ, singing, music theory (all grades, including 5) and practical musicianship, which is a less well-known but rather more interesting alternative to the ABRSM grade 5 theory requirement. I am also an experienced and capable accompanist, up to diploma level.

I am also an expert tutor for both A level and GCSE music where I am a senior examiner. I can offer coaching in the performing unit, help with composition and harmony and work on the listening and essay skills required for the written paper.

In my last year working as a full time Director of Music  9 pupils in year 13 achieved an ARSM diploma, and I accompanied and coached all of them, most with distinction; a further 12 achieved Grade 8 with either merit or distinction. Almost all pupils also achieved full marks in the performing units at GCSE or A Level, and top grades overall. My experiences ensure that I can provide insight and strategies to improve all aspects of performing,

My hourly rate for individual tuition is £60, pro rata for shorter lesson times.

Please note that, due to contractual commitments to my examining work I am unable to provide tutoring for the listening paper for AQA GCSE music and the composition briefs paper for AQA A level music.
